Press Release (added 6.6.2009)
We are the future “Retail Is Dead, Long Live E-tail”
I was recently made redundant by a very large furniture retailer, which like most retailers of non-essential big-ticket items has seen a steady decline in business over the past year. But having spotted a gap in the market I have managed to turn a negative into a positive by starting my own Internet company www.FurnishEurope.com
Quite simply furniture is all about brand names and once a potential customer sits on, tries, and likes an expensive piece of furniture the next thing they want to do is negotiate the price. So when told by a snotty salesman that this is the best price we can offer, the average customer is usually too embarrassed to haggle and will simply go shopping around to find a better price, armed with the items name and that of the manufacturer.
With this information they can just pick up the phone, or more commonly now go online and find another retailer who will quite happily make them a better offer, because they haven’t got to do any work, nor in most cases do they have the overheads of being in the West End or in a large retail park, leaving them only to take the money, place the order and then deliver.
Well my website www.FurnishEurope.com will help formalise this scenario, because by telling me what piece of furniture you want and the manufacturers name, I can forward your request to several retailers, from our database of hundreds, who will then bid for your business. The real genius behind this simple proposition is the fact that once a bid has been accepted I will then ask for a small commitment fee, which is one hundred pounds or 5% of the order value (whichever is the smaller amount), before telling our client the name of the retailer that made the lowest bid. In this way the retailer can remain anonymous, and not be seen to be openly discounting and cheapening the brand, which is a fear many manufacturers have.
In fact most manufacturers would stop dealing with a retailer that openly discounted in this way, this I know to be true as I have in the past threatened to cease dealing with manufacturers if they don’t stop supplying for instance an Internet only company, which doesn’t have the expense of stocking the item, nor a showroom, or staff, and rates etc., and who is overtly advertising unrealistically low prices, which would not be sustainable for a bricks and mortar retailer.
I hope you find this short introduction to my company to be news worthy and I end as I began by saying “Retail Is Dead, Long Live E-tail”
